Emerging contaminants: Estimation, Environmental liabilities and Potential Solutions

Emerging contaminants are the anthropogenic markers designed for maximum biological activities even at optimum to sub-optimal concentrations and can produce a chronic health effect after long-term exposures. More than a thousand tons of pharmaceuticals are used in India and they ultimately enter into the water bodies through human excretion. These may pose a significant threat to human health and ecosystem. With the progress of urbanization life-cycle, associated diseases and corresponding changes in the use of pharmaceuticals led to the development of conservative wastewater specific indicators: Antibiotic resistant bacteria/gene (ARB/ARG), Pharmaceutical and personnel care products (PPCPs), Micro-plastics. ENCORE INSOLTECH provides a suite of state-of-the-art techniques for identifying the emerging contaminants in the environmental samples. To name a few the use of MINion nanopore technology for identifying the ARB and ARG in the waterbodies has really given an edge to ENCORE INSOLTECH.

Waste to wealth: Why not resource because resource is wealth

Waste to wealth is an emerging research area and a promising scientific trend in the present Anthropocene era. It is expected that by the year 2050, nearly >20 billion tons of waste (sewage sludge, engineering/construction waste materials) will be produced due to quantum jump in population. Turning this large volume of solid waste into income- generating would be the principle objective of ENCORE INSOLTECH. In addition, biochar (a pyrogenic solid residue from agricultural residues) can be used as a sustainable solution for restoration of contaminated land and also used as filler materials for civil engineering/water resource engineering/environmental purification purposes. ENCORE INSOLTECH will provide such locally available and economically viable smart solutions to the different sectors of the society.
